Negative Gemini at Rozz-Tox -- March 27.

Tuesday, March 27, 8 p.m.

Rozz-Tox, 2108 Third Avenue, Rock Island IL

With Spin magazine lauding the artist as “something jarring and sublime in crystalline brilliance” and Resident Advisor admiring her “ethereal New Age jungle with a vocal flex that nods to Enya and Björk,” Negative Gemini singer/songwriter Lindsey French brings her singular electro-pop to Rock Island's Rozz-Tox on March 27, performing in support of the recent Bad Baby EP that BandCamp described as “a stunner.”

A producer and electronic musician hailing from Richmond, Virginia, French is known for her unique approach to crafting ominous soundscapes, and has captured the attention of music publications for her innovative use of voice into largely electronically tinged productions. She first started making music with two friends in a rap group, which gave French her first introduction to beat-making, and eventually led to her crafting her own compositions. After moving to Brooklyn, French began to mold the Negative Gemini sound – a style that spanned a number of genres from '90s techno to rave to modern electronica – and she independently released The Richmond Tape Club, Vol. 1 EP and full-length Forget Your Future in 2013, with her Real Virtual Unison EP earning a spot on FACT's list of favorite BandCamp releases for 2015.

French went on to co-found the independent vinyl-and digital label 100% Electronica with her partner and fellow electronic artist George Clanton, releasing Negative Gemini's second-full-length album Body Work in 2016. The album's success – along with the success of its single “Don't Worry 'Bout the F--- I'm Doing” – led to a performance at the Gorilla vs. Bear showcase at SXSW 2016 and a subsequent U.S. Tour. And this past January, the release of Bad Baby was met with rapturous acclaim, with Pitchfork.com raving that “French finds beauty in tonal confusion” by “ignoring the tropes of many musical styles” and “reshaping how they can sound together.”

The 8 p.m. March 27 concert with Negative Gemini features opening sets by George Clanton and Bold Little Airwave, admission is $10, and more information is available by calling (309)200-0978 or visiting RoxxTox.com.
