Pickwick at the Triple Crown Whiskey Bar and Raccoon Motel -- October 28.

Saturday, October 28, 7 p.m.

Triple Crown Whiskey Bar & Raccoon Motel, 304 East Third Street, Davenport IA

Paste magazine describes Pickwick's latest album LoveJoys as “a seamless little sound-world of old soul, new blood, sleek pop, slow jams, electro-funk, and fearless exploration," and the Seattle quintet performs a Moeller Nights concert as the latest stop in their cross-country tour.

Its band name stemming from Pickwick Records, where Lou Reed was employed as a songwriter in the 1960s, the heavily soul-influenced Pickwick began recording early in the decade composed of vocalist Galen Disston, bassist Garrett Parker, guitarist Michael Parker, keyboardist Cassady Lillstrom, and drummer Alex Westcoat. According to Paste, the musicians “got off to a fast start, releasing three excellent 7” singles that neatly showcased the band’s gritty, modern but tasteful take on a sound easily traced back to the '60s output of labels like Motown and Stax.” The singles were consequently compiled for the EP Myths, which became one of Seattle's best-selling albums in 2012, leading to sell-out shows in noted local venues such as the Neptune and Showbox at the Market.

Released independently in the United States and on Diane Alone Records in Canada, Pickwick's full-length debut Can't Talk Medicine landed in 2013, with new band member Kory Kruckenberg – a 2010 Grammy winner for Quincy Porter: Complete Viola Works – co-producing the album. Their sophomore release LoveJoys, meanwhile, has earned Pickwick the best-yet reviews of the band's young career, with Under the Radar calling it “a complete and rewarding trip,” and Pitchfork magazine deeming the album “formidable and fluid … as if the band were re-imagining Saturday Night Fever as made by Dark Side of the Moon-era Pink Floyd.”

Pickwick's October 28 concert features an opening set by Motopony, tickets are $10, and more information and reservations are available by visiting MoellerNights.com.
