Sunday, December 2, 2 p.m.

In presenting the third of its six Masterworks concerts during the 2018-19 season, the Quad City Symphony Orchestra celebrates not only the ensemble's 104th year of performance, but the 100th birthday of a composing and conducting in the December 1 and 2 concert event Celebrating Bernstein's Centennial, with the program of Leonard Bernstein works featuring special solos for Concertmaster Naha Greenholtz on violin and Daniel Won on clarinet.

Canadian violinist Greenholtz was born in Kyoto, Japan, where she began her musical studies at age three. Since her solo debut at 14, concerto appearances include engagements with the Vancouver, Madison, Quad City, Burnaby, Kelowna, and National Repertory Orchestras in works ranging from Bach to Stravinsky. She has also has participated in prominent music festivals throughout the U.S. and Europe, including at Maine's Kneisel Hall, New Mexico's Taos, Italy's Spoleto, Switzerland's Lucerne, and the New York String Orchestra Seminar at Carnegie Hall. Greenholtz has also had an active career as an orchestra musician. In addition to her duties as Concertmaster of both the QCSO and the Madison Symphony Orchestra, her performance highlights include guest concertmaster appearances with the Oregon Symphony, Calgary Philharmonic, National Ballet of Canada, Omaha Symphony, and Memphis Symphony, among many others.

Daniel Won

One of Chicago’s most-sought after clarinetists, Won is currently leading a versatile music career as performer and educator. A member of the Quad City Symphony Orchestra since 2016 and also a clarinetist for the Music of the Baroque Orchestra in Chicago, he is a frequent guest artist with some of the premier ensembles in the Midwest, including Chicago Symphony's MusicNOW, Joffrey Ballet, Chicago Sinfonietta, Chicago Opera Theater, Fort Wayne Philharmonic, and Elgin Symphony Orchestra. Won has also performed with the Grant Park Symphony Orchestra, Chicago Chamber Musicians, Alabama Symphony, Las Vegas Philharmonic, Grand Rapids Symphony, Chicago Jazz Orchestra, and Civic Orchestra of Chicago, and in addition to his orchestral and chamber-music career, he has appeared as soloist with various orchestras around the country, including Pacific Symphony Orchestra, Colorado Springs Festival Orchestra, and UCLA Philharmonia Orchestra.

In the group's latest Masterworks repertoire, the Quad City Symphony Orchestra's centennial celebration of Leonard Bernstein will explore the nature of love with Greenholtz in Serenade (after Plato’s Symposium), while Won will make his QCSO solo debut with Bernstein's energetic and syncopated Clarinet Sonata. Rounding out the program are beloved selections from the musical classics West Side Story and On the Town designed to leave both the orchestra's and Bernstein's fans dancing in the aisles.

The Quad City Symphony Orchestra's Celebrating Berstein's Centennial performances will be held at the Adler Theatre at 8 p.m. on December 1 and at Augustana College's Centennial Hall at 2 p.m. on December 2, admission is $8-62 on Saturday and $8-39 on Sunday, and more information and tickets are available by calling (563)322-7276 or visiting QCSO.org.
