One of America's most acclaimed talents will be the special guest in the Quad City Symphony Orchestra's third Masterworks concerts of the season, as the ensemble's Postcards from Scandinavia program gets an added burst of heat courtesy of award-winning pianist Charlie Albright.

Hailed by the Washington Post as “among the most gifted musicians of his generation” with a “dazzling natural keyboard affinity,” pianist/composer Albright, a native of Washington state, has also been praised by the New York Times for his “jaw-dropping technique and virtuosity meshed with a distinct musicality.” After earning his 2011 bachelor's degree from Harvard, his 2012 Master's in Piano Performance from the New England Conservatory, and a 2014 post-graduate Artist Diploma from the Juilliard School of Music, Albright's professional career has found him touring internationally, collaborating with the likes of Yo-Yo Ma and Bobby McFerrin, and receiving such laurels as the Avery Fisher Career Grant and Germany's prestigious Ruhr Klavier Festival Young Artist Award.

Albright's musical prowess will be on particular display in Masterworks III when performing Norwegian composer Edvard Grieg's Piano Concerto in A minor, Op. 16, a legendary 1868 piece that requires a pianist of considerable improvisational skill. Also featured in the Postcards from Scandinavia repertoire are Danish composer Carl Nielsen's overture to Maskarade, the comedic national opera of Denmark, and Finnish composer Jean Sibelius' Symphony No. 2 in D major, Op. 43, which its creator once called “a confession of the soul.”

Tickets to the Masterworks II concert are $8-58 at the Adler Theatre on December 2 and $8-39 at Centennial Hall on December 3, and more information and reservations are available by visiting QCSO.org.
