Vision Video at the Raccoon Motel -- September 23.

Tuesday, September 23, 6 p.m.

Raccoon Motel, 315 East Second Street, Davenport IA

Delivering what The Big Takeover described as "brilliant weavings of the sound that has made Joy Division and The Cure so loved," the post-punk goth rockers of Vision Video return to Davenport's Raccoon Motel on September 23, with Pitchfork raving that the group "exhibits a radiance that distinguishes them from fellow black-lipstick aficionados."

Composed of guitarist and lead singer Dusty Gannon, bassist Dan Geller, and drummer Jason Fusco, the indie artists of Vision Video are based in Athens, Georgia, and their outfit is designed to inject modern malaise into classic sounds of the late 70's and 80's. The band pays homage to classic acts such as The Chameleons and The Cure, while also bringing a refreshing modern element to the genre. Thematically, their music explores the effects of trauma on the human psyche and finding stability and agency in an insane world. Having served in Afghanistan with the army and as a firefighter in the civilian world, Vision Video's Gannon is no stranger to the darker proclivities of humanity and death itself. "I wanted to write music that helped people remember that it's okay to not be okay," Gannon says, "but that also doesn't shy away from taking a stern look at the darker aspects of our flawed human existence."

Their debut LP Inked in Red and second LP Haunted Hours were recorded and mixed by Tom Ashton of The March Violets at his Sub Von Studios in Athens, Georgia. Both of Vision Video's first two records were met with much critical praise, such as Pitchfork stating that the rockers create "dreamy tunes tailor-made for the sort of wallflower who sprints to the dancefloor the instant the DJ drops 'Age of Consent' or 'Primary' at Goth Night." Meanwhile, last fall, Vision Video released their LP Modern Horror, which was recorded at Maze Studios, the Atlanta-based outfit headed by Grammy Award-winning producer Ben Allen. Earmilk raved that the album "pushes the boundaries of goth rock to new emotional and sonic heights," while ReGen Magazine stated, "There's not a weak track on Modern Horror, and in an age where the album feels like a lost art form, that's no small feat."

Vision Video headlines their Davenport engagement on September 23 with additional sets by Panic Priest and Treasvre, admission to the 6 p.m. concert is $26.45, and more information and tickets are available by visiting TheRaccoonMotel.com.
