Nominations Deadline Approaching for 100 Great Iowa Nurses of 2019

There is still time to nominate a great Iowa nurse for the 100 Great Iowa Nurses 2019 award. Nominations are open at www.greatnurses.org and close December 31, 2018. Each year, the program recognizes 100 nurses across the state whose compassion and commitment to their patients and the nursing profession stand out above all others. Founded in 2005, the program has recognized 1,400 Great Iowa Nurses.

Over the past 14 years, patients, coworkers, friends and family members have nominated thousands of outstanding nurses from across the state. Nurses selected for this honor represent many sectors of health care, working as nurses in hospitals, long-term care facilities, schools and offices. They come from all practice areas, including acute care, sub-acute care, school nursing, parish nursing, nurse leadership and academics.

After undergoing a two-part review and selection process, 100 Great Iowa Nurses are honored each year at a ceremony created for the state of Iowa by nurse and community leaders. This year’s celebration will be Sunday, May 5, 2019 at the Iowa Events Center in Des Moines. The celebration is an annual prelude to National Nurses Week, which begins on May 6 and ends on May 12 (the birthday of Florence Nightingale).

This statewide program is made possible through the generous support of sponsors. In addition to recognizing 100 Great Iowa Nurses every year, the program also offers financial awards to nursing students. Current and future nurses across Iowa are encouraged to apply for financial award opportunities to complete or further their nursing education. Applications can be found at www.greatnurses.org/financialawards.
