BETTENDORF, IOWA (August 1, 2025) — The Quad Cities Community Foundation has announced the opening of the 2025 QC River Connections Grant Program on August 1. Made possible by the Walton Family Foundation and guided by the Clean River Advisory Council (C-RAC), the grant program supports local organizations leading efforts to address environmental and community challenges along the Mississippi River.
Launched in 2023, QC River Connections Grants are designed to lift the voices and experiences of those most affected by environmental issues — especially communities that have often been left out of shaping the solutions. This year, up to $50,000 can be requested per applicant, with up to $315,000 in total grants to be awarded.
“As the program has grown, we’ve heard back from recipients and used their feedback to make these grants even more impactful,” said Kaleigh Trammell, the Community Foundation’s director of grantmaking and community initiatives.
“We’re working with organizations through every phase of the grant process to make the funding accessible and the projects as successful as possible. That includes connecting organizations with our partners at the National Wildlife Federation to learn how nature-based solutions could support their work.”
This year’s grant program focuses on alignment with the Mississippi River Equity Vision and nature-based solutions — projects that use natural resources to address both environmental and social challenges. Whether it’s wetland restoration to reduce flooding, creating urban green spaces that improve public health, or initiatives that promote environmental education and engagement, the QC River Connections Grants aim to support work that strengthens both communities and ecosystems through inclusive and equitable community engagement.
The inaugural grant cycle awarded more than $300,000 to twelve organizations whose work blends environmental stewardship with community well-being, addressing issues like public health, flood resilience, and the creation of green spaces.
The Community Foundation will also host a free information session for interested organizations on August 7, available both virtually and in-person. Attendees will have the opportunity to learn more about the grant program, walk through the application process with the grants subcommittee, and connect with fellow organizations interested in applying.
