BETTENDORF, IOWA (June 11, 2019) — The 8th annual Flowers on the River event will be held 5-6PM, Thursday, June 13, at Jetty Park in Bettendorf, Iowa. This event is hosted by Family Resources’ Engaging Males program and the Elephant Club to remember and honor local victims who have lost their lives to domestic abuse. Names will be read aloud and a flower will be placed in the river to honor each life lost.
Attendees include community resource partners, local law-enforcement, and families of the victims. Participants of Flowers on the River include Family Resources staff, Elephant Club members, WQAD's Matt Randazzo, and Davenport Central High School students. The public is welcome to join.
The Elephant Club is a group of men and volunteers who serve as positive role-models for men, women, and children in our community. The problem of violence against women cannot be solved by women alone. The Elephant Club members stand as witnesses that violence against women and children will not be tolerated. Members define their societal responsibility as men through love, care, and respect for others. The Elephant Club works closely with Family Resources’ Engaging Males program to provide mentorship to youth in our communities.
