WEST DES MOINES, IOWA (December 1, 2023) — Above + Beyond Cancer Board Chair Becky Moomey and Founder Dr Richard Deming announce that the president of Above + Beyond Cancer Chris Goodale has resigned his position and will be returning to Simpson College, where he worked for fourteen years prior to joining the Above + Beyond Cancer team. He will serve in the areas of fundraising and campaign management.

“We will really miss Chris,” said Moomey, who is the first woman to chair the Above + Beyond Cancer Board of Directors. “He has helped this organization reach new heights.” "Chris has been involved with Above + Beyond Cancer since our early days,” commented Dr Deming, who founded the organization in 2011. “He has been instrumental in our growth and success as both a volunteer in the early years, and as our executive director during the last five years. His energy, professionalism, and dedication to our mission helped to elevate our organization in every possible way." Goodale became executive director in September 2018, and was named president on Above + Beyond Cancer in January 2023.

With this team opening, we are excited to announce that Above + Beyond Cancer is seeking a dynamic and accomplished individual to become the organization’s next Executive Director. The successful candidate will possess:

  • Extensive experience and proven success in fundraising from individuals, foundations, and
  • corporations;
  • A history of successful management of highly driven and successful professionals;
  • A positive attitude and embrace our mind, body, spirit approach to cancer survivorship;
  • strong interpersonal, presentation, and writing skills;
  • At least four years of experience in professional event organizing, marketing, and execution;
  • A background in basic accounting and comprehension of financial statements; and
  • A Bachelor’s Degree Business, Nonprofit Management, or a related field.

Above + Beyond Cancer was founded in 2011 by Des Moines Oncologist Richard Deming. The organization supports those who have been diagnosed with any form of cancer (Survivors) and all of the friends, family members, and medical professionals (Caregivers) who have helped a survivor on their cancer journey. There are sixteen weekly and regular MIND | BODY | SPIRIT programs to help survivors and caregivers become healthier and live lives of purpose and passion. These programs serve hundreds of people in the Metro area and thousands of survivors and caregivers through virtual programing.
