DAVENPORT, IOWA (April 3, 2023) — The Alzheimer’s Association will hold the first annual BrainWorks Conference in the Quad Cities at Birchwood Fields Learning Center in Davenport on April 19, 9AM-2:30PM. This year's conference is focused on providing family caregivers with information and resources to help them care for themselves and their loved one living with Alzheimer's or dementia It is free and open to the public, but registration is required because space is limited.

Experts in the fields of dementia care, research, and legal planning will present on different topics throughout the conference:

·       Dr Percy Griffin, Director of Scientific Engagement at the Alzheimer’s Association, will present on early detection, risk reduction, and new Alzheimer’s treatments.

·       Teri Skoog, founder and owner of Skoog Dementia Support, will share how to approach caregiving from a different perspective to better care for yourself and your loved one and find beauty in the difficult journey.

·       A panel of professional and family caregivers will share resources and information about caregiving based on their different experience and perspectives.

·       Meredith Mercer, a Program Director at Senior Star, will lead Laughter Yoga which is an experiential learning class where you will discover the physiological and psychological benefits of laughter; practice mindfulness and deep breathing techniques; and learn new ways to add more laughter to your life and to the lives of those you serve.

Attendees will have the opportunity to learn from these experts, ask questions, visit with exhibitors who provide resources from across the state and talk with other local caregivers throughout the day. To learn more and register, visit alz.org/iowa or call 800.272.3900.
