DAVENPORT, IOWA (May 15, 2023) — The Alzheimer’s Association’s annual Memories in the Making event will be held on Friday, May 19, 5:30–9PM, at the Figge Art Museum (225 W 2nd St) in Davenport. All proceeds will benefit the Alzheimer’s Association and go towards Alzheimer’s and dementia care, support, and research.

This unique event features paintings created by individuals living with Alzheimer’s or dementia in the Memories in the Making Art Therapy program, and these beautiful pieces will be available to bid on in a silent and live auction. The Memories in the Making Art Therapy program helps those living with the disease that have lost the ability to use words to express their thoughts and emotions and share memories through paintings with watercolors. It’s a way to improve the quality of life for people living with the disease and bring their stories and feelings to light.

All the money raised at this event helps fund local Alzheimer’s Association programs like education and support groups as well as critical research worldwide to find the next treatments, and ultimately a cure.

There are 6.7 million Americans living with Alzheimer's disease — a leading cause of death in the United States. Additionally, more than eleven million family members and friends provide care to people living with Alzheimer’s and other dementias. In Iowa and Illinois alone, there are nearly 300,000 people living with the disease and over 400,000 caregivers.
