QUAD CITIES (March 28, 2019) — Upcoming Events and Reminders:

  • Saturday, April 6, 5th Annual Quad Cities National Robotics Week Showcase

  • FREE and open to the public with robotic displays and demonstrations for students in grades K-12. This includes a FIRST LEGO League Junior (age 6-10) Expo with 22+ local teams with volunteers needed (no previous experienced required). In addition to the expo, the showcase will include student robotic teams for: FIRST LEGO League (age 9-14), FIRST Tech Challenge (age 12-18), and FIRST Robotics Competition (age 14-18). The event is from 12-2PM and is possible through a partnership with the Putnam Museum and Science Center, Riverdale Heights Robotics and Iowa State University College Of Engineering. Further information

  • Wednesday, April 17, Quad City Engineering & Science Council (QCESC) Monthly Meeting at 6PM at Western Illinois University, Room 228 — Everyone is welcome to attend!
  • Thursday, April 18, High School Trebuchet Egg Throw Contest — Registration (free) is now open for teams and volunteers for 12th Annual contest. High school teams of 3-8 students design and build trebuchets and bring them to the event to launch raw eggs at targets at three distances and present to a panel of judges. The event is hosted at Bettendorf High School. Second of three events with the QC Tech Challenge. ASABE has engineering mentors available to help teams. Further info or to sign-up teams or volunteers.
  • Thursday, April 18 IISE Night of QC River Bandits  Everyone is invited to attend the Night of the QC River Bandits organized by the Institute of Industrial and Systems Engineers (IISE) Society. 20 free tickets are available in a luxury box on a first-come, first-serve basis.Link to register link for info on IISE.
  • Saturday, May 4 — QCESC Trivia/Fundraiser

    Join us for a fun night as we compete with STEM-based trivia and raise money for our organization. Cost is $12/person, with 8 people per table — cost includes doublers and mulligans. Everyone, including students, are cordially invited register and attend! You are welcome to bring snacks and food with drinks available for purchase at the event.

  • Doors Open 6PM; Trivia Starts 7PM.

    • The first event of the QC Tech Challenge — the 12th Annual Battle of the Bridges — was held on March 1st and 2nd at the Putnam.

  • April 24-27 — FIRST World Championship in Detroit: 700+ teams with 15,000+ students from 40+ countries will be competing at the FIRST World Championship in Detroit at Cobo Center in Detroit.  Congratulations to the the Quad Cities area teams that have qualified so far:  FIRST LEGO League Junior Team, The Moon Savers from Camanche and FIRST Tech Challenge Teams, The Winter Soldiers from Bettendorf, The Finger Puppet Mafia from Dewitt Central High School, and Mortal Combotsfrom Davenport West High School.
  • April 30 — 2019 Future Ready Iowa — STEM Summit Statewide event in Des Moines is open to the public with keynote by Peggy Whitson, space and science consultant and former astronaut. Further info
