ROCK ISLAND, ILLINOIS (October 1, 2026) — The Rock Island Downtown Alliance will transform Downtown Rock Island into a Halloween destination on Saturday, October 24, as Back from the Dead, presented by 1st General Construction, returns with a full day of seasonal fun for all ages and nighttime scares throughout downtown.

The event invites visitors to explore downtown through family-friendly experiences during the day and Halloween-themed attractions into the evening. Free trolley rides will be available 1-10PM to help attendees travel between participating locations throughout downtown.

New this year, attendees may take part in the Monster Mission, a challenge designed to encourage visitors to experience more of what Downtown Rock Island has to offer while competing for prizes. To complete the Monster Mission, participants must finish at least five of the following challenges and submit photos documenting their experience:

  • Browse or shop at a participating retail business
  • Take part in a hands-on activity, game or experience
  • Grab food or drinks
  • Ride the trolley
  • Attend a movie or live performance
  • Take a photo with the Back from the Dead backdrop
  • Dress in costume

Participants who complete the challenge will be entered for a chance to win prizes from Skellington Manor Event Center.

"Back from the Dead captures what makes Downtown Rock Island so unique," said Jack Cullen, Executive Director for the Downtown Alliance.

"It's a chance for people to rediscover downtown in a fun and unexpected way while experiencing the creativity of our businesses and attractions that continue to move Downtown Rock Island forward."

Visitors can spend the day exploring themed events, live entertainment, movie screenings, shopping specials, and Halloween attractions before taking in spookier experiences later in the evening.

Event headquarters will be located on the Green Lawn near the Rock Island Letters, 1801 2nd Ave, where attendees can find information about activities taking place throughout the day and pose for fun photos.

Back from the Dead is presented by First General Construction and supported by Dan's Advanced Awnings, Windows, and Garage Doors; Quad Cities Illinois Hy-Vee Stores; and Terror at Skellington Manor.
