HousingIowa Awards Recognize Outstanding Housing Initiatives

CEDAR RAPIDS – The Iowa Finance Authority recently recognized outstanding affordable housing initiatives and advocates with HousingIowa Awards at the 2017 HousingIowa Conference in Cedar Rapids.

The HousingIowa Awards recognize outstanding programs, projects and professionals for leadership and innovation in advancing affordable housing development in Iowa. The award categories include: Innovation, Multifamily, Single-Family, Special Needs and Legislative Friend of Housing Award.

In addition to the HousingIowa Awards, the Kay Anderson Friend of Iowa Award was awarded. It was founded in 2008 when the state of Iowa lost an exceptional community development advocate with the passing of Kay Anderson, of LeMars. A long-time member of the Iowa Finance Authority Board of Directors, Kay is remembered for her commitment to the success of programs that enhance the quality of life for Iowans. This award recognizes an individual who encompasses Kay’s outstanding qualities.

An independent panel of judges selected the following the 2017 HousingIowa Award winners:

Innovation Award Healthy Homes Des Moines, Polk County Housing Trust Fund   

Multifamily Development Grand Crossing Apartments, Waterloo, Echo Development Group

Single-Family Development  Washington Court Development, Des Moines, Caselli Holdings, Inc.

Special Needs Development Unity House of Davenport

Legislative Friend of Housing Award Senator Roby Smith, Davenport

Kay Anderson Friend of Iowa Award Tracey Achenbach, The Housing Fund for Linn County, East Central Housing Trust Fund, Housing Trust Fund of Johnson County

The Iowa Legislature created the Iowa Finance Authority in 1975 to undertake programs to assist in the attainment of housing for low- and moderate-income Iowans. Since then, the Iowa Finance Authority’s role has grown to include nearly 40 affordable housing, water quality and beginning farmer programs. The Iowa Finance Authority is a self-supporting public agency whose mission is to enhance the quality of life of Iowans.
