Big Tables – Talking About Our Kids

Spring Forward Learning Center Executive Director will host two Big Tables to discuss our community’s children. The two tables will host parents, grandparents, educators, nonprofit leaders and others.

Big Table – Our After School Kids

Thursday, April 19, 5:30 pm

Rock Island Center for Math and Science

2101 16th Ave, Rock Island, IL 61201

Mr. McNeil will facilitate a conversation with families who have children in Spring Forward Learning Center’s after school program. Many families depend on the support and educational enrichment that after school programs provide. The goal of the Big Table is to hear what parents need after in the after-school hours.  Executive Director Dan McNeil said, “We do surveys, but I can honestly say I have never sat down for an hour and listened to the families of the children we serve.  It’s what we need to do, and I look forward to having more conversations like this.”

Big Table -  Generation Z

Friday, April 20 at 9:00 am

 Doris and Victor Foundation office

1800 3rd Ave. #302, Conference Room

Mr. McNeil will host a public table to discuss our kids, the generation sometimes referred to as Generation Z (Gen Z) or iGen. Demographers differ on their age range but for this discussion Gen Z will be like to identified as children born from 1995 through today. Every generation has seen change, but some argue this generation’s change has been much more rapid (technology, income inequality, media, politics, etc.)  Table participants include representatives from the Rock Island-Milan and Moline School Districts, Community Foundation, Doris and Victor Day Foundation, and most importantly parents and grandparents.

What makes this generation unique? What will their challenges be? How can we help guide them? (or stay out of there way) What will Gen Z bring to the workforce?
