LECLAIRE, IA, November 6, 2017--The health benefits of yoga have been widely touted for their uses in both stress reduction and physical well-being. What many may not know is how helpful yoga can be for expectant mothers. One local yoga instructor channels these health benefits for pregnant women and makes them accessible in multiple venues.

Roberta Kelinson, owner of Born to Breathe Quad Cities Prenatal Yoga, is passionate about ensuring both mother and baby enjoy a safe pregnancy and birth. She creates a healthy space for mothers-to-be to practice in and also fosters a community for pregnant mothers to come together and be supported.

"When a student steps on their mat with me in prenatal yoga, they can expect to feel immediate relaxation as we begin each class finding our breath. I talk them through relaxation techniques at that time. They can also be assured that the yoga they get is safe for both mama and baby. All the poses we do on the mat address pregnancy discomforts they may be experiencing. And one of the things that sets prenatal yoga apart from a regular gentle class is the community of other pregnant women," Kelinson says.

Kelinson recently added AquaNatal classes to her list of offerings.

"I am taking the women into a new dimension off of the mat and into the water at the YWCA in Rock Island. It gives them an opportunity to relax more deeply with warm water swirling around them, less tension on their joints and a great feeling of buoyancy," she says.

Kelinson says among the most valuable bonuses of her classes--in or out of the water--are the friendships and support systems created by the women, as these are crucial for new mothers.

Kelinson believes prenatal yoga is important because each and every pregnancy is important, and she has made it her life's work to share the benefits of yoga with expectant mothers.
