Davenport, IA – January 2018 –Gilda’s Club is hosting a Cancer and Diabetes: Managing a Dual Diagnosis workshop for the community on Monday, January 22, 2018 from 6:00 – 7:00 p.m. at Gilda’s Club (1234 E. River Drive, Davenport). Karen Ulrich, RD will help participants understand diabetes and its different types. Participants will also learn more about the cancer-diabetes connection and how eat healthy for healing and recovery. According to Cancer Treatment Centers of America, between eight and 18% of cancer patients also have diabetes. There is a strong link between diabetes and different types of cancer. •               Type I diabetes tends to occur with cervical and stomach cancers. •               Type II diabetes often occurs with breast, endometrial, pancreatic, liver, kidney and colon cancers. Managing diabetes during cancer treatment is very important. Treatment may cause metabolic changes in the patient that agravate or create new symptoms for a diabetic. High blood sugar in a diabetic can weaken the immune system, which impacts a patient’s quality during cancer treatment. The general public and anyone impacted by cancer (patients, survivors, caregivers, healthcare professionals, etc.) is welcome to attend this free-of-charge event. Registration is required. For more details and to register, please call Gilda’s Club at 563-326-7504 or email gc@gildasclubqc.org<mailto:gc@gildasclubqc.org>.
