Davenport, Iowa – Going green takes on a whole new meaning this Sunday, March 12 in Downtown Davenport. The Apprentices - Quad City area painter’s apprentices, that is – will be painting Shamrock Alley at 2 nd and Main Street – the starting line of the Center For Active Seniors, Inc.’s 35 th Annual St. Patrick’s Day Race, Presented by Russell Construction.

“The painting of Shamrock Alley has become an annual tradition of CASI’s St. Patrick’s Day Race”, said CASI President/CEO Laura Kopp. “We’re excited to partner with Quad City Painter and Drywall Finishers Apprenticeship program to bring our race course to life and help to build momentum to a fantastic community event.”

Shamrocks will take over 2nd street in downtown Davenport helping to kick-off a week of preparations for the big race. Led by a friendly leprechaun, over 3100 runners and walkers race through downtown Davenport to help raise funds to support CASI’s mission of providing services to senior citizens in the Quad Cities Region. Race day is next Saturday, March 18, 2017 with events starting at 9am.

“We’re to be here to help paint the Shamrocks in the streets for the big races,” said Larry Kelly, Apprenticeship Instructor with the International Union of Painters and Allied Trades District Council 81. “We’ll have about 30 apprentices using this as a training opportunity while we give back to our community.”

In its 35 th year, CASI’s St. Patrick’s Day race, presented by Russell Construction, is THE major fundraiser for the Center for Active Seniors, Inc. More than $100,000 was raised in 2016. With a leprechaun on their side and a bit of luck o’ the Irish, the 2017 race day is looking to be even bigger.

“Ghost” race registration allows everyone to help support seniors. As a ghost, you don’t actually participate in the race. Instead, your $30 registration is a donation which includes a t-shirt available during packet pickup, and the peace of mind knowing you, too, are helping Quad City seniors if only in spirit.

Packet Pick-up is Friday, March 17, 2017, at the Figge Art Museum in downtown Davenport on 2nd Street between Harrison & Main from Noon- 6:30pm and Race Day, Saturday morning, March 18 th from 7am- 9:30am.
