What: Every student at every school in the Quad Cities is challenged to attend school on September 13. We’re trying to beat last year’s Quad Cities-wide attendance rate of 96.1% on Challenge 5 Day.
When: Thursday, September 13, 2018 at 9 a.m.
Where: Virgil Grissom Elementary School, 500 Lost Grove Rd, Princeton, IA
Who: All school superintendents are joining together in the effort to encourage all students to “Strive for Less than 5” absences this school year.
Why: Quad Cities School Districts and United Way are teaming up for the Challenge 5 initiative. Studies show that fewer than 5 absences in a year keeps learning on track.

  • Chronically absent students score 20% lower in reading and math.
  • Chronically absent students are twice as likely to have to repeat a grade.
  • Chronically absent students are twice as likely to have their first suspension before 7th grade.
