DES MOINES, IOWA (March 19, 2019) — A coalition of two dozen environmental and conservation organizations and more than 100 Iowans will assemble at the Iowa State Capitol on Thursday, March 21, to call on legislators to support sustainable funding for Iowa's environment this legislative session.

Sponsored by the Iowa Environmental Council, the annual Environmental Lobby Day is an opportunity for Iowans to speak out in support of policies and actions that drive clean water, clean energy growth, and a healthy environment as end-of-session budget decisions loom.

AT A GLANCE:

WHAT:      2019 Environmental Lobby Day WHERE:   First floor rotunda, Iowa State Capitol, Des Moines WHEN:      March 21, 2019, 9AM–1PM

A press conference will be held at 10AM. Jennifer Terry, the Iowa Environmental Council's executive director, will introduce the following speakers:

  • Sen Claire Celsi (D-West Des Moines), member, Senate Natural Resources & Environment Committee;
  • Rep Andy McKean (R-Anamosa), member, Environmental Protection Committee;
  • Mollie Aronowitz, Land Manager with People's Company in Clive, will talk about sustainable land practices that can improve water quality and profitability for farmers, and the importance of legislative policies that incentivize conservation practices;
  • Todd Miller, CEO of 1 Source Solar in Ankeny, will share the importance of solar to Iowa businesses and homeowners and threat of HF 669 to the future of the solar industry in our state.
