This is a peaceful rally to demonstrate support for legislation protecting the Dreamers from deportation.

MOLINE, ILLINOIS, SEPTEMBER 15, 2017 – President Trump’s decision to rescind Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) spurred the creation of the DACA QC Coalition.  The coalition of organizations share a goal and that goal is to persuade Congress to pass S. 1615 and H.R. 3440, “The Dream Act” in five months or less.

A multi-faceted approach will be used consisting of various actions.  The first public action is a rally on September 16, 2017 at the Esperanza Center, 335 5th Avenue, Moline, Illinois at 10 a.m.  There will be live music, face-painting for children, and speakers.  Some speakers are “Dreamers” and from the various organizations in the Coalition. Others include a staffer from Representative Cheri Bustos’ office, and a staffer from Representative Dave Loebsack’s office.

One key reason for the Rally is to provide direct opportunity for attendees to complete postcards on the DACA issue.  These postcards will be hand delivered to Iowa and Illinois federal legislators.

This is a family-oriented rally to foster hope and enthusiasm for civic participation.

“We love the United States.  It is the only home we know.  We say the Pledge of Allegiance and we sing the National Anthem to show our love and respect for the United States of America!” said Idalia Villapando, a Dreamer and DACA QC member.

Concerned and caring citizens are urged to phone, write and email their U.S. Senators and U.S. Representatives and ask them to vote for S. 1615 and H.R. 3440.  Come to the rally and write a note on a postcard saying, “Do the right thing, do the smart thing, and pass legislation protecting the Dreamers”.

Coalition participants include representatives from One Human Family QCA, League of United Latin American Citizens, Quad Cities Interfaith, Quad Cities Alliance for Immigrants and Refugees, Progressive Action for the Common Good, Davenport Diocese among others.
