DAVENPORT, IOWA (January 20, 2022) — On Friday, January 21, 2022, the Iowa Chapter of Certified Public Accountants will personally donate a new book to several first-grade classrooms in the Davenport Community School District. Media is encouraged to join local CPAs as they read When I Grow Up I Want to Be An Accountant by Dr Adrian L Mayse CPA to these first graders.

The goal of this book donation is to educate young students about the accounting profession and encourage minority students, specifically, to consider learning more about this field. Currently, less than one percent of CPAs in Iowa are African American. The Iowa Chapter of CPAs is focusing on several ways to promote the profession to different age groups, as it’s concerned with the lack of diversity in the accounting profession.

Book readings are happening at McKinley, Truman and Garfield Elementary Schools:

8:15AM at McKinley, 1716 Kenwood Ave, Davenport, IA 52803

9AM at Truman, 5506 N Pine, Davenport, IA 52806

10AM at Garfield, 902 E 29th St, Davenport, IA 52803

Media partners are encouraged to arrive fifteen minutes before each session and can attend as few or as many as they like. The same CPAs will be reading at each location, but each school will have staff and students prepared to speak with the media.
