DAVENPORT, IOWA (April 25, 2022) — The Davenport Community School District is formally recognizing those who go above and beyond to help DCSD schools continue growing excellence with the new Growing Excellence Award.

“We are enriched by our diverse community,” says John Border, a Community Education Specialist at Davenport Community Schools. “My job is to make sure we live up to that message.”

The Growing Excellence Award seeks to unite the community by celebrating students, volunteers, community, or business partners, and staff of the Davenport Community School District. Each school and several facilities in the district are invited to nominate. There are appointed representatives at each location that take the nominations.

“We are better when we embrace the community in assisting us both at home, in the community, and within the walls of our schools,” Border says.

Nominees receive a Growing Excellence certificate and lapel pin.

“Over the past two years we have not had volunteers in the classroom,” Border says. “So, it’s a good time for us to reflect and celebrate a little bit on the fact that we are back in the schools now with our community. Volunteers are coming through the doors again. Our community partners are welcome to use our facilities again — both during the school day as volunteers and as partners and during the out-of-school-time hours. It’s a great time to enjoy and celebrate our community.”

Friday, April 22, is the deadline for nominations. DCSD expects to have a full list of around 100 recipients by the end of April.
