The Davenport Public Library, in partnership with St. Ambrose University and the Davenport Civil Rights Commission is pleased to host “Iowa Women’s History: Fighting for Freedom” panel discussion on Saturday, March 4th, 2017 at 12:00 p.m. at the Davenport Public Library Eastern Avenue Branch (6000 Eastern Avenue).

The panel will include District Associate Judge Romonda D. Belcher, Dr. Jane Simonsen of Augustana College and Dr. Katy Strzepek of St. Ambrose University.

Judge Belcher was appointed as a District Court Judge in 2010, becoming the first African American female judge in Iowa. She currently presides over Juvenile Court dependency and delinquency cases. Judge Belcher was selected by Chief Judge Arthur Gamble as the presiding judge for Recovery Court, a therapeutic, peer based family treatment court designed to assist parents with services toward maintaining sobriety and reunification with their children.

Dr. Simonsen is Associate Professor of History and Gender Studies at Augustana College. Her research areas include 19th and 20th century women's work, photography and history, and history of the U.S. West and Midwest.

Dr. Strzepek is the Director of Women and Gender Studies at St. Ambrose University. Her current research focuses on activist adolescent girls in the United States. Her work focuses on the intersections of feminist pedagogy and social praxis.
