Grimes, IA – Special Olympics Iowa (SOIA) will host the Davenport Unified Golf Tournament on Thursday, September 14 at Red Hawk Golf Course in Davenport. The tournament will offer 9-hole and 3-hole levels of play.
Dedicated to promoting social inclusion through shared sports training and competition experiences, Special Olympics Unified Sports® creates an opportunity for people without intellectual disabilities to join in the sports experience by playing on a team with athletes with intellectual disabilities. It was inspired by a simple principle: training together and playing together is a quick path to friendship and understanding.
SOIA Unified Golf pairs individuals with intellectual disabilities with Unified Partners (golfers without intellectual disabilities) to compete in a team environment. The focus of the day is on friendship and highlighting abilities. Over 60 athletes and partners are set to compete in the tournament this year.
There is no charge to participate in the Davenport Unified Golf Tournament. Athletes register beforehand. Lunch and water will be provided along with a T-shirt and awards at the end of play.
