DES MOINES, IOWA (June 22, 2023) — Des Moines University and Grand View University, located in the Greater Des Moines area, have announced a new partnership to create enhanced pathways for Grand View students seeking medical and health sciences careers. The partnership is intended to benefit students while helping build Iowa's health-care workforce.

Under the partnership agreement, two arrangements are available depending on the program(s) a student is interested in pursuing. The partnership includes a concurrent degree plan for some programs and guaranteed interviews for others.

Concurrent Degrees

DMU programs that will provide qualifying Grand View students the chance to earn credits through both institutions concurrently are:

  • Doctor of Occupational Therapy
  • Master of Health Care Administration
  • Master of Public Health

This arrangement allows students to complete their bachelor's degree at Grand View through coursework at DMU — completing both degrees sooner rather than waiting until after receiving their undergraduate degree.

The DMU occupational therapy program will also reserve three seats for Grand View students each year.

Guaranteed Interviews

Grand View students with eligible MCAT scores and grade-point averages are guaranteed interviews for consideration in several DMU programs. The DMU programs guaranteeing interviews to qualifying Grand View students are:

  • Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine
  • Doctor of Podiatric Medicine
  • Master of Science in Physician Assistant Studies
  • Master of Science in Anatomy
  • Master of Science or Doctor in Biomedical Sciences

"We are excited to partner with Grand View University to support students interested in a future in the medical and health sciences," says Angela L Walker Franklin PhD, DMU president and CEO. "The partnership will benefit DMU, Grand View, and Iowa by attracting academically-promising students into our programs and producing well-prepared professionals for the medical and health science fields."

"I'm very pleased about this arrangement between Grand View and DMU. In this and other ways, we are working together to address Iowa's needs for health care workforce development," says Carl Moses PhD, provost and vice president for academic affairs at Grand View. "With this agreement, Grand View students will become more aware of their options in health-care careers and the educational opportunities right here in Des Moines."

The partnership agreement takes effect immediately. Students interested in learning more are encouraged to contact their academic advisor at Grand View, the Grand View admissions team at admissions@grandview.edu or the DMU admissions team at admissions@dmu.edu.
