Autumn Brunia DO and Abigail Schiltz PA-C CAQ-Psych

WEST DES MOINES, IOWA (October 25, 2023) — Autumn Brunia DO joined the Des Moines University Clinic — Behavioral Health as a faculty psychiatrist. She had been a faculty member for the Broadlawns/UnityPoint psychiatry residency program in Des Moines and continues to serve in that role.

The DMU Clinic — Behavioral Health provides trauma-informed care provided by Brunia and Abigail Schiltz, a physician assistant. Brunia specializes in working with patients who experience anxiety, depression, post-traumatic stress disorder, and other trauma-related disorders. She provides perinatal psychiatry services and serves LGBTQ patients. She also seeks to partner with primary-care providers to serve as a resource and ensure access for their patients to psychiatric care.

As a doctor of osteopathic medicine, Brunia is skilled in osteopathic manipulative medicine and can use osteopathic manipulative treatment to treat pain and dysfunction in the body caused by previous traumas or for conditions that present in combination with anxiety and depression.

Brunia earned a business degree from Drake University and worked at The Principal Financial Group for five years before deciding to pursue medicine. She returned to Drake to earn a degree in biology and then graduated from DMU's Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine program. She completed her psychiatry residency at Broadlawns/UnityPoint, where she was chief resident and won the Des Moines Resident Teacher of the Year Award from the University of Iowa Carver College of Medicine for teaching medical clerkship students.

Involved in student, resident and physician wellness through her time at DMU and in residency, Brunia continues to promote wellness initiatives and access to mental health services to all Iowans.
