COAL VALLEY, ILLINOIS (December 4, 2023) — State Representative Gregg Johnson, State Senator Mike Halpin, and Congressman Eric Sorensen’s District Director Elle Peoples will visit and tour Arrowhead Ranch on Thursday, December 7, 1PM.
Also attending will be Coal Valley Mayor Mike Bartels, Sheriff Darren Hart, States Attorney Dora Villarreal, Public Defender Hany Khoury, Rock Island County Board Chairman Richard Brunk, and 708 Mental Health Board Chair Pat Moreno.
This visit will be an excellent opportunity for the elected officials to familiarize themselves with Arrowhead Youth and Family Services’ role in our community and the support needed to continue their work. They will meet the staff and administrators serving at Arrowhead and understand how they work with our youth-at-risk to become productive and responsible young people through quality counseling, education, and social services.
Arrowhead cared for nearly seventy children at one point. Established in a rural setting south of Coal Valley in 1945 as the Rock Island County Boys Farm, the facility now has a capacity for 36 youth. In 2021, Illinois enacted the Family First Prevention Services Act, which placed restrictions on the type of youth served in congregate care — changing the focus of which youth can receive treatment in a residential setting. In light of these changes, the tour will discuss how Arrowhead has shifted its services to meet the new federal guidelines and the support needed for continued success.
Arrowhead continues its reputation for motivating the youth at the residential treatment facility, which has helped hundreds of teenage boys who struggle at home, in schools, and the community. Each day that youth are in treatment at Arrowhead, they receive positive therapeutic interventions that provide the tools and insight necessary to re-establish themselves within their families and the community long after they complete the program.
Arrowhead is a private, non-profit treatment facility serving at-risk youth aged 12-21. Arrowhead offers a home and training for youth needing help and is located at 12200 104th Street, Coal Valley, Illinois. Arrowhead’s website is arrowheadyouth.org
