Survivors of Homicide Victims Awareness month will be observed from November 20, 2018 – December 20, 2018.

Family Resources has several community events planned in collaboration with other community partners. On November 27th Cocoa and Cookies with Cops will be taking place at the Martin Luther King Center from 1:00 pm – 3:00 pm. On December 6th, there will also be a Holiday Open House and Support Group event. This is an event to meet, share, reflect, and celebrate the lives of loved ones lost due to violence and will include memorial crafts, adult/child support groups, and a remembrance vigil. You can view a full list of events on the Family Resources website at www.famres.org/calendar.

Family Resources Survivors of Homicide and Other Violent Crimes program offers support services to those who have been impacted by an array of traumatic crimes; including burglary, assault, attempted homicide and child abuse. Services available include legal, economic and systems advocacy, as well as grief, loss and trauma therapy. Individual and group services ranging from crisis response to supporting survivors during court and medical processes to education and advocacy around how trauma impacts work and life, are available throughout an eight county area.

“Many people impacted by crime are not aware of the many services we can provide. This awareness month is an opportunity to let survivors know that there are resources they can access and for the community to offer support to those coping with these traumas,” said Ashley Odom, Family Resources Director of Survivor Services.
