This environmental lesson is funded through an Alliant Energy and Trees Forever grant

WEST BRANCH, IOWA (October 9, 2019) — Alliant Energy, Trees Forever and West Branch FFA students are joining together on Wednesday, October 16, for a hands-on lesson about trees and the environment. The community received a grant from Alliant Energy's Iowa energy company and Trees Forever to fund the $5,000 project and plant 41 street trees in West Branch.

"This is a great example of how Branching Out is helping communities in our service area," said Terry Kouba, president of Alliant Energy's Iowa energy company. "We're proud that over the last 30 years this program has planted more than a million trees and reduced more than 59 million tons of carbon dioxide. The whole community benefits from these plantings!"

At 9AM on Wednesday, October 16, representatives from Alliant Energy and Trees Forever, including Trees Forever CEO Shannon Ramsay, and West Branch Mayor Roger Laughlin, will join the students to plant trees in a newly-developed area. The trees will be planted along West Orange Street and Scott Drive.

"Tree plantings are great opportunities to teach the community and the next generation about the environment," said Trees Forever field coordinator Emily Swihart. "Students will learn about how trees provide us with so many benefits — from cleaning our air, water, and soil to helping homeowners save energy and money."

In the case of the inclement weather, a rain date will be Wednesday, October 23.

Since the program began in 1990, Alliant Energy and Trees Forever's Branching Out partnership has planted more than 1,176,000 trees statewide.
