Bettendorf —Nik LaMaack, a North High School senior, impressed his Family Museum dance instructors during his first (and final) year with the program so much so that he has landed a starring role in the upcoming annual performance. LaMaack studies ballet, jazz, and hip-hop at the Family Museum and is currently rehearsing for his starring role as Dr. Coppélius in the classical ballet, Coppélia. The character Dr. Coppélius is a lonely toy maker who attempts to bring one of his dolls to life through magic.

LaMaack is not a stranger to theater. He has worked in theater production for five years, and he will be double majoring in theater and dance at Columbia College Chicago with a concentration in directing. But while many students begin studying dance at a young age, LaMaack has advanced quickly despite his minimal time of training. And, on top of that, he has paid for his own tuition at the Family Museum.

Even though the Family Museum dance program is non-competitive and welcomes dancers of all abilities, the program still focuses on building a strong technical foundation while encouraging expression, creativity, and confidence.

LaMaack’s performance in Coppélia can be seen by the public on Saturday, June 3, at 2:00 pm at the Galvin Fine Arts Center at St. Ambrose University. Tickets are available at the Family Museum now. For media only: if you would like to interview Nik or get a better idea about our dance program, two rehearsals are suggested: Tuesday, May 9, 8:00 – 8:30 pm at the Family Museum or Tuesday, May 23, 7:30 – 9:00 pm at the Family Museum. Please make arrangements with Jessica Halfhill at (563) 344-4151 or jhalfhill@bettendorf.org.
