ALBIA, IOWA (August 8, 2019) — Today, Focus on Rural America took in the sights and first two of the Des Moines Register Soap Box Speeches at The Iowa State Fair. On Wednesday, three Democratic candidates for President released new proposals to address issues in rural America and provide funding and programs to address hospital shortages, support for high-speed internet, and housing improvements. Today, Focus on Rural America reiterated this focus with an aerial advertisement of a green “Focus on Rural America” banner trailing behind a single-seat, red, white and blue plane.   Former Vice President Joe Biden and Former Governor Steve Bullock both gave exciting speeches and took questions from the crowd, offering Iowans charismatic candidates who will solve the problems Trump has only succeeded in making worse. Bullock and Biden touched on the need to win back the counties across America that voted Obama-Obama-Trump and bridge the divides that will unify our country.   “It’s important our candidates address the issues facing rural America in their Soap Box speeches and I’m glad to hear them kick it off by paying attention to all voters. Rural America is really hurting and needs a leader that will listen and partner with rural communities. Just this week we saw that China is tired of being President Trump’s punching bag and will not be making the additional commodity purchases promised in previous talks. Rural America is tired of being overlooked. Trump’s trade talks are piling onto the ag economy, on top of the Spring floods and his “small refinery” exemptions that favor oil and gas companies and encourage them to avoid blending ethanol. Rural Americans will have the deciding vote in 2020 and they’re looking for someone who will keep their promises. The Democratic candidates need to seize this opportunity and continue to show up in rural communities.”

Focus on Rural America is a nonprofit organization aimed at boosting progressive causes and organizations by developing and promoting economic messages that resonate in rural America.
