ROCK ISLAND, ILLINOIS (June 6, 2019) — The Scandinavian countries are dropping into Rock Island on Saturday, June 22, at First Lutheran Church's Folk Arts Festival.

The festival will embody culture from the Scandinavian region and other countries from the food, music, art, and traditions.

The American Scandinavian Association's Midsummer Celebration will take place at the festival as well. Wear a wreath of flowers on your head and prepare to sing and dance around the Maypole. Join in the cheers as the Midsummer Queen is crowned. The celebration begins at 1:30PM.

The Folk Arts Festival runs 10AM-3PM. It is free to everyone and all are welcome. Food and merchandise will be available for purchase.

First Lutheran is located at 1600 20th Street, in Rock Island.

The American Scandinavian Association (ASA) was founded in 1934 by a group of Scandinavians living in the Quad Cities, according to Augustana College's website. It's an associate chapter of the American Scandinavian Foundation. The ASA aims to promote interest between the United States and the Scandinavian countries, to preserve the heritage, and to advance Nordic culture in the United States.
