DUBUQUE, IOWA (July 25, 2023) — Challenge to Change Inc, a wellness-education company, has partnered with the Eastern Iowa Mental Health and Disability Services Region (EIR) to offer free scholarships for a nine-week course on emotional intelligence. Emotional intelligence is known as the ability to be smart with one’s feelings.

Community members must live or work in the following Iowa counties:

- Scott

- Cedar

- Clarke

- Clinton

- Jackson

- Muscatine

Personal Empowerment: A course on Emotional Intelligence is a nine-week course led by Dr Liza Johnson taught live, online. ⁠Participants will be guided to develop an understanding of how their thoughts and feelings impact daily life choices and personal relationships. In this course, participants will cultivate self-awareness that will allow them to mindfully navigate the relationships they have:⁠

- with themselves and others⁠

- in the workplace⁠

- to stress, change and the unknown ⁠

- with daily life challenges

Classes will take place on Wednesdays, 4-5:15PM, starting October 4, 2023, via Zoom. 

Dr Liza Johnson is the founder of the EQ Development Institute, which provides individuals, businesses, schools, and families the support to grow and practice emotional intelligence.  She is the author of the emotional-intelligence curriculum called “Know. Choose. Give (KCG): A Practical Guide for Personal and Professional Success.” Dr Johnson also serves as a director of Personal Empowerment at the University of Dubuque.
