DAVENPORT, Iowa – Jan. 26, 2017 – Genesis Health System will celebrate National Heart Month with five heart healthy free events in February.
All events will start at 6 p.m. and will be held in the Adler Health Education Center, 1236 East Rusholme Street, in the lower level of the Genesis Heart Institute.
Here is schedule:
Feb. 1 – Heart Healthy Cooking. Details -- Hy-Vee Registered Dietitian Madeleine Ranshaw will demonstrate how to prepare a simple heart healthy recipe and talk about how to eat for heart health. You can sample the dish and will receive printed information to take home for continued heart health.
Feb. 6 – Hands-Only CPR. Details – The American Heart Association now suggests that Hands-Only CPR, a simplified technique for cardiopulmonary resuscitation, can help save the lives of 350,000 people in the U.S. annually who are stricken with cardiac arrest outside of the hospital. Genesis Emergency Preparedness Coordinator Al Loeffelholz and Chuck Gipson of Medic EMS will be the instructors.
Feb. 14 – Chair Yoga. Details – Keep your heart healthy with a simple exercise routine. Chair yoga is a gentle form of yoga that is practiced sitting on a chair, or standing using a chair for support. Learn how you can manage your stress and improve your heart health from Genesis Healthy Lifestyles instructor Patti Meyer.
Feb. 16 – Hypnosis for Your Heart. Details – Learn how hypnotherapy can held with heart health with stress management, lowering blood pressure, dietary/lifestyle changes and smoking cessation. Genesis Certified Hypnotherapist Brook Lemke will explain the theory of using the mind toward the goal of improved health.
Feb. 22 – Management and Treatment for Atrial Fibrillation. Details – Nearly 3 million Americans are living with atrial fibrillation, or irregular heartbeat, a serious conditions that can increase the risk of blood clots, stroke, heart failure and other heart-related complications. Genesis Heart Institute cardiologist Yuhning Linda Hu, M.D., will talk about the latest treatment and management options for atrial fibrillation.
