CLINTON, IOWA (August 16, 2019) — Gilda’s Club Quad Cities is excited to announce that we are adding a new monthly Cancer Support Group in Clinton to accommodate the needs of the community. The new support group will meet on the second Thursday of the month from 10-11:30AM at the Zion Lutheran Church Library, where group members can share thoughts, feelings and their experiences.

According to the 2019 Cancer in Iowa Report, there are approximately 2,580 cancer survivors living in Clinton County with an estimated number of 320 newly diagnosed cancers in 2019.

Current Clinton Programs:

  • Evening Cancer Support Group: 2nd Tuesday of the month from 6:30-8:00PM at Zion Lutheran Church Library;
  • Daytime Cancer Support Group: 2nd Thursday of the month from 10-11:30AM at Zion Lutheran Church Library;
  • 1st and 3rd Tuesday morning or by appointment: Patient visits with Gilda’s Club Program Manager, Anita Shaft, LMSW, at Mercy Radiation Oncology Center.

In order to meet the growing needs of cancer patients and their families, Gilda’s Club continues to work collaboratively with Mercy Medical Center and other community organizations to provide its evidenced-based cancer-support programs closer to those living outside of the metro Quad Cities.

Patient-centered services provided by Gilda’s Club include distress-screening, treatment decision-support, educational workshops, support groups, healthy-lifestyle programs, and access to research-studies being conducted by the Cancer Support Community Research and Training Institute.
