IOWA CITY, IOWA (June 25, 2020) Goodwill of the Heartland is offering people the opportunity to advance in their career and gain an edge in obtaining a management job in the restaurant and food service industry with its free online ServSafe Manager Certification.

The course will be offered via Zoom July 6–17. Classes will be 10AM-12PM each day Monday-Friday for a total of 20 hours. At the completion of the online course, there will be an in-person exam proctored by Goodwill of the Heartland; location is to be announced.

Ensuring food safety is more important now than ever before. The ServSafe Manager Certification verifies that a manager or person-in-charge has sufficient food-safety knowledge to protect the public from foodborne illness. The ServSafe Manager Certification is administered by the US National Restaurant Association and is accredited by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) under the Conference for Food Protection Standards.

Course topics include forms of food contamination; safe food-handling; the purchasing and receiving of food products; food storage and avoiding food contamination; the preparation and serving of food; facilities and equipment; sanitizing; pest management; food-safety regulations and standards; and food-safety training.
