CHICAGO - Gov. Pat Quinn, who served as Governor of Illinois from 2009 to 2015, issued the following statement regarding President Donald Trump's recent executive orders relating to immigrants and refugees:

"Like so many Americans, I am deeply concerned about President Trump's anti-immigrant and anti-Muslim agenda.

"The United States was founded by immigrants and refugees from across the world. Denying safe haven to refugees based on their religion is a betrayal of the Constitution and American values.

"The protests at airports across the country show that America is great not because of Donald Trump, but because of everyday people standing up for what is right.

“I stand with our nation's protestors because kindness to strangers and trusting in our faith will lead us to do the right thing."
