DES MOINES, IOWA (April 25, 2019) — Today, Governor Kim Reynolds announced that the Governor’s 2019 Future Ready Iowa Summit has sold out, with Iowans reserving more than 1,000 seats for the public statewide gathering in Des Moines on Tuesday, April 30. This year’s summit is titled “STEM Education + Workplace Partnerships,” and it is hosted by the Governor’s STEM Advisory Council.
Employers, educators, and others will come together to learn about innovative school-business partnerships that provide engaging professional experiences that connect classrooms to future careers, and how to expand those opportunities to all students.
Featured-speakers include former astronaut Peggy A Whitson and Pallavi Verma, senior managing director, US-Midwest for Accenture. Gov Reynolds will announce the names of six high-poverty elementary schools selected to receive a total of $300,000 in grants ($50,000 each) through the Computer Science is Elementary Project.
The entire summit, including the Computer Science is Elementary Project, aligns with Future Ready Iowa. That ambitious initiative sets the goal of 70 percent of the workforce having education or training beyond high-school by the year 2025. Future Ready Iowa also focuses on strengthening preK-12 education and career-exploration and preparation.
