WASHINGTON – Senator Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa), chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee and co-chairman of the Caucus on International Narcotics Control, made the following comments upon the Attorney General’s announcement that the Drug Enforcement Administration will boost efforts to combat prescription drug diversion.

“Every state across our country is facing a lethal opioid abuse crisis. To address this epidemic, we need an all-of-the-above response. The Justice Department is taking the right steps by making greater efforts to rein in criminal activities that result in diversion of prescription opioids. I’ve said before that better data sharing and drug monitoring will help curb inappropriate distribution. This is one of the all-of-the-above solutions. I look forward to continue working with the Justice Department and my colleagues in Congress on further solutions so we can end this tragic epidemic.”
