The City has received several inquiries regarding the closure of the Elm Street and 13th Street bridges. The city has been pursuing repair and maintenance of the bridges for some time. Both bridges are the property of Canadian Pacific Railway. Currently the city has requested the railroad either repair the bridges or offer a monetary settlement to have the City of Davenport take ownership. Canadian Pacific has escalated this issue to their corporate offices and we continue to check on the status regularly. Public Works will look to provide another update on these bridges next month as they continue working toward resolution with the railroad.
As you plan ahead for your holiday stories, you may want to consider updating your audiences on holiday recycling tips and reminders.
Wondering what to do with all of the extra material such as boxes and bags the holiday brings? Check out the GO ALL IN Holiday Recycling guide, http://www.goallinqc.org/holiday-recycling-guide/ to find out what goes in recycling and place the rest with the trash.
Don’t forget the lights and electronics. The city offers free curbside collection of large electronic waste throughout the year for items such as TV’s. Just place the item(s) outside of the cart for collection on your regularly scheduled recycling and bulky waste collection day, and Public Works will pick it up.
Smaller electronics such as: Christmas lights, calculators, game systems, DVD players & VCR's, printers, stereos and scanners are recyclable; however residents must take these items directly to the Electronic Demanufacturing Facility to be recycled. The facility is located at 1048 East 59th Street, and is open 7:30am to 4pm weekdays and 8am to 1pm on the first Saturday of the month, except holidays.
