Frieze Lecture Series with Augustana College, Reformation of Science & Technology,  2:00, Tuesday, November 7, Rock Island Downtown Library, 401 19th Street. The library's fall lecture series considers changes in how we view science and technology, with Augustana College physics professor Dr. Josh Dyer.

History Beneath Our Feet, 6:00 pm, Wednesday, Nov. 8, Rock Island Downtown Library, 401 19th Street. Rock Island Reference Librarian James Shearouse leads a visual tour of local history, as seen through the historical markers that commemorate it. What local history have you missed while driving by?

Over There: Mobilization and Training of the US Army in World War I, 2:00 pm, Wednesday, November 8, Rock Island Downtown Library, 401 19th Street. Jason Morin, Army Sustainment Command historian, leads the third lecture in a nine-part examination of the United States' involvement in World War I. The November 8 program focuses on the effort to quickly build a standing army after years of isolationism. New topics offered on the second Wednesday of every other month.

Holiday Recipe Swap, Thursday, Nov. 9, 6:00 pm, Rock Island 30/31 Library, 3059 30th Street. Discuss and share your favorite recipes with each other, just in time for the holiday baking and feasting season. Bring along your tried and tested favorites in any category. Please bring 10 copies of your recipe(s.)
