SPRINGFIELD – Illinois Fraternal Order of Police State Lodge President Chris Southwood issued the following message regarding the observance of Veterans Day on November 11:
“Many of the men and women in Illinois law enforcement are United States armed forces veterans, so the service they rendered to this nation continues as they uphold and protect our freedoms in every community in this state,” said Illinois Fraternal Order of Police State Lodge President Chris Southwood. “The color of their uniforms may have changed, but their dedication to duty has not. This Veterans Day, I urge all Illinois residents to remember and honor our United States veterans, including those behind the badge.”
The Fraternal Order of Police, founded in 1915, is the largest organization of sworn law enforcement officers in the United States. With a proud tradition of officers representing officers, the FOP is the most respected and most recognized police organization in the country. The Illinois FOP, chartered in 1963, is the second largest State Lodge, proudly representing more than 34,000 active duty and retired police officers - more than 10 percent of all FOP members nationwide.
