SPRINGFIELD, IL (02/09/2018) (readMedia)-- Springfield, Ill. – Illinois Army National Guard Col.(ret) Robert Roth of Springfield, Illinois, was awarded the Legion of Merit for his 30 years of dedicated service in a ceremony at Camp Lincoln, Springfield, Illinois, Feb. 6.
The Legion of Merit is awarded for exceptionally meritorious conduct in the performance of outstanding services and achievements.
Roth entered active duty with the U.S. Air Force in August 1987. In 1993 Roth was appointed as a captain in the Illinois Army National Guard where he served as Trial Counsel. In 2007, Roth became the Staff Judge Advocate for the Illinois National Guard, and served in that position until his retirement in August 2017.
Roth supported flood relief operations in New Orleans, Louisiana, for Hurricanes Katrina and Rita. Roth also deployed as part of Combined Joint Task Force Phoenix in Afghanistan in 2008-2009.
Roth continues to work at Camp Lincoln, now serving as General Counsel for the Department of Military Affairs (DMA).
"I advise The Adjutant General, DMA-Chief of Staff, and the rest of the staff with respect to State legal issues - lots of real estate, labor and personnel matters," said Roth. "It's a great job and I'm very grateful to be able to continue to serve the women and men of the Illinois National Guard."
