BLOOMINGTON, ILLINOIS (April 19, 2023) — The Illinois Weseyan University chapter of The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi inducted 23 new members during a ceremony held April 15, 2023. The Society is the nation's oldest and most selective collegiate honor society for all academic disciplines.

Local newly-inducted members include:

Natalie Jacocks of Geneseo, Illinois, a Sophomore English and Secondary Education Major

Evelyn Wilson of Geneseo, Illinois, a Sophomore Marketing Major

IWU faculty members who were also inducted include Assistant Professor of Biology Dr Richard Alvey, Associate Professor of Psychology Dr Abigail Kerr, and Assistant Professor of Business and marketing and Director of Design, Technology and Entrepreneurship Dr Tara Gerstner. Officers for the 2022-23 academic year are Professor of Physics Narendra Jaggi as President, and University Archivist and Special Collections Librarian and Associate Professor Meg Miner as Treasurer/Secretary.

These honorees are among approximately 25,000 students, faculty, professional staff, and alumni initiated into Phi Kappa Phi each year. Membership is by invitation and requires nomination and approval by a chapter. Only the top-ten percent of seniors and 7.5 percent of juniors, having at least 72 semester hours, are eligible for membership. Graduate students in the top-ten percent of the number of candidates for graduate degrees may also qualify, as do faculty, professional staff, and alumni who have achieved scholarly distinction.

Chapter 031 was chartered on December 15, 1922, at Illinois Wesleyan University.

Headquartered in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, Phi Kappa Phi has chapters on more than 325 college and university campuses in the United States, its territories and the Philippines. Its mission is "To recognize and promote academic excellence in all fields of higher education and to engage the community of scholars in service to others."
