ANKENY, IOWA (May 19, 2025) — The Iowa Biodiesel Board today applauded Representative Ashley Hinson for spearheading a bipartisan letter to President Trump urging swift action to strengthen the Renewable Fuel Standard. The letter called for setting robust Renewable Volume Obligations for 2026 and beyond.
The letter, led by Rep Hinson on the republican side and Minnesota Rep. Angie Craig, a democrat, emphasizes the need for timely and ambitious volume targets that reflect growing renewable fuel production and the increasing availability of feedstocks like soybean oil. The letter recommends increasing biomass-based diesel volumes to 5.25 billion gallons in 2026 and beyond. It also urges the administration to curb the abuse of refinery exemptions that have historically eroded demand.
Grant Kimberley, executive director of the Iowa Biodiesel Board and senior director of market development for the Iowa Soybean Association, issued the following statement:
“Representative Hinson has once again demonstrated her leadership by championing Iowa’s renewable fuel economy at a critical moment. Lawmakers from both parties are sending a powerful, unified message: we must restore certainty to the RFS and protect the rural jobs and economic growth it supports.
“Farmers need market stability and strong signals that investments in sustainable crop production are valued. With increased crushing capacity and demand for soybean oil, a solid RFS gives farmers the confidence to keep innovating and growing for the future.”
Kimberley also thanked Iowa’s entire House delegation — Reps Hinson, Mariannette Miller-Meeks, Randy Feenstra, and Zach Nunn — for signing onto the effort and standing united for Iowa’s biofuel producers and soybean farmers.
