DES MOINES, IOWA (May 23, 2019) — On Wednesday, May 29, 2019, leaders and advocates on children’s issues will announce the results of a poll conducted by Selzer and Company. This poll reveals how Iowa voters prioritize pressing issues surrounding the 2020 presidential election. Voters surveyed — representing a mix of political orientations — view child-policy issues as the most important for the next president to address. More voters identified children’s well-being as their top priority than any other issue, including creating jobs and balancing the budget.

In addition to sharing the poll results, advocates will announce the goals and aims of the Caucus for Kids Campaign, an initiative led by the Children’s Policy Coalition, to elevate awareness of and discussion around children’s issues in the 2020 presidential election.

The event will highlight the issues Iowa’s children are currently facing. Despite public interest in children’s issues, it is getting harder for families to meet their children’s basic needs and provide opportunities for their future. Children and families are struggling in the areas of health, education, safety, economic security, and equal opportunity. The purpose of this campaign is to elevate discussion of children’s issues in the 2020 presidential candidate selection process.

Representatives of the Children’s Policy Coalition will be available for follow-up comments and questions following the event.
