Des Moines, IA – Iowa Democratic Party Chair Troy Price released the following statement on Senate File 481: “SF 481 makes it clear that Iowa’s fields of opportunity are only available to the white immigrants who moved here before the Republican Party embraced xenophobia. This bill addresses a problem that does not exist, wastes the tax payer funded time of our lawmakers, and it will make our communities less safe. It is absolutely disgusting that Iowa House Republicans brought up this bill, and even more abhorrent that our Governor is now fundraising off the racist principles of this bill. If the Senate Republicans bring it up again, they will be complicit in legislation history will revile. Iowa Democrats will not sit idly by as Republicans attempt to enshrine hate in our laws. I am calling on all Iowans to contact their State Senators and tell them the principles behind SF 481 are NOT Iowa values.” Iowa Republican State Senators can be reached by calling (515) 281 - 3221. ###
Iowa Democratic Party Statement on the Passage of SF 481 Racist Anti-Immigrant Bill is a stain on our state. Des Moines, IA – This evening, the Iowa Senate passed Senate File 481. Iowa Democratic Chair Troy Price released this statement in response:  “SF 481 is a pointless piece of legislation. It purposefully singles out hardworking, Iowa families and tells them they are not welcome. It will make our cities less safe and stain our state’s legacy on human rights. Governor Reynolds should keep all this in mind as she makes her decision on whether or not to sign this bill.” ###
