DES MOINES, IOWA (February 23, 2019) — In response to the news that former Governor and US Secretary of Agriculture Tom Vilsack will not seek the Democratic nomination for US Senate in 2020 against Joni Ernst, Iowa Democratic Party Chair Troy Price issued the following statement: "Secretary Vilsack has been — and continues to be — an outstanding public servant both for the people of Iowa and our nation. He would have been a tremendous advocate for Iowa in the Senate and we appreciate his thoughtful and deliberate consideration of making a run for this seat. I know that Christie and Tom love Iowa and remain committed to supporting strong Democratic values across the state. "We’re confident that we will have a spirited primary season and show the people of Iowa that our party is just as strong as this great state. Together, we will make Joni Ernst a one-term Senator by putting forward a positive vision for our state that includes fighting for good jobs, education, and health care for all Iowans."
