DES MOINES, IOWA (July 19, 2019) — In response to Health and Human Services Secretary Alex Azar’s visit to Iowa today, the Iowa Democratic Party released the following statement:

“Azar continues to hold water for the relentless Trump health-care agenda that threatens protections for people with preexisting conditions. He told Iowans today that he is focused on Medicaid, neglecting to mention that the Trump budget proposes massive cuts to the program. Instead of working across the aisle to find solutions to skyrocketing health-care costs and prescription-drug prices, the Trump administration pedals short-term junk-insurance plans that leave patients out to dry. “For the thousands of Iowans who could lose coverage if Trump’s effort to dismantle our health-care system is successful, Azar’s visit is nothing more than meaningless political theater and another reminder of Trump’s broken promises to Iowa.”
